Girls Night!

At girls night last week, we made Valentine's Day cards for a local nursing home.  We are going to hand them out the Sunday before V-Day.  The reason we go to this particular nursing home(We went caroling at Christmas time too), is because a bunch of us girls grew up in our church together and we have been friends since we were in the 1st grade and our sunday school teacher, Mrs. Smith is the Godly woman who taught us all, from age 7-12.  We love her dearly and want to attempt to pay her back for faithfully serving God and us, as we were children.  Here are a few pics:

I love girls night and I wish my job allowed me to go more often.

An interesting week...

A week ago today, while we were driving home from work, my car broke.  Like, really, really broke.  We heard these crazy noises, turned into a gas station and as we were on the way up the ramp, my car died.  It would not go and it was making these AWFUL grinding noises. A really nice guy who was getting gas helped us push the HUGE SUV up the hill(thank God for him!) We called a tow truck and had it towed to our mechanics and walked home....at.10:00 at night....in 30 degree weather....carrying laptops, bags etc.  We could have called someone to come get us, but we weren't too far from home.

We got a call from our mechanic the next day and he quoted us $2,500 in repair costs to get it to run again.  Now, you have to know that we bought the Explorer 3 years ago for $8000.  We have replaced the transmission($4000) breaks, tires, transfer casing(whatever the heck that is :) and a whole list of other stuff...We were DONE with that thing.  I wanted to get it towed to the edge of a cliff and push it off to be done with it, Scott being the responsible one knew it would be best to fix it and then try to sell it for a small amount of money.

We decided it was time for a new car, so we began our search.  It was a NIGHTMARE.  My dear, dear husband Scott is SO conservative when it comes to finances(which I am so grateful for, because of him, we have NO debt), but needless to say, it's hard to buy a car without debt.  We stressed over this for a whole week and FINALLY, by the grace of God we found an awesome dealership, with a KILLER deal on the car Scott has wanted for several years.  We got it in the color I wanted and I am literally in LOVE with it :)

2010 Mazda 6.  It's brand new, but because it's a 2010 we got a SWEET deal :)

Later that night we went out on a double date with a great friend of ours, Justin.  He has a new girlfriend and wanted her to meet us.  We went to Jillians, which is basically a chucke cheese for adults..SO fun.  I got the most tickets 1,550..yay.  Too bad I didn't want any of the stuff that you can buy with tickets..oh well, we did get these crazy led mouth pieces.  They flash crazy green, blue, red, yellow...it's really weird looking and I had to catch a pic.  We look ridiculous..ha.

So that is the story of how I got a new car.  I am so thankful that I now have a safe car to drive around in and I don't have to worry about it breaking down.

I am thankful that...

..I serve a God that has the power to turn back the Sun.

2 Kings 20: 1-11
1 About that time Hezekiah became deathly ill, and the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to visit him. He gave the king this message: “This is what the Lord says: Set your affairs in order, for you are going to die. You will not recover from this illness.”
2 When Hezekiah heard this, he turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, 3 “Remember, O Lord, how I have always been faithful to you and have served you single-mindedly, always doing what pleases you.” Then he broke down and wept bitterly.
4 But before Isaiah had left the middle courtyard, this message came to him from the Lord: 5 “Go back to Hezekiah, the leader of my people. Tell him, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your ancestor David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears. I will heal you, and three days from now you will get out of bed and go to the Temple of the Lord. 6 I will add fifteen years to your life, and I will rescue you and this city from the king of Assyria. I will defend this city for my own honor and for the sake of my servant David.’”
7 Then Isaiah said, “Make an ointment from figs.” So Hezekiah’s servants spread the ointment over the boil, and Hezekiah recovered!
9 Isaiah replied, “This is the sign from the Lord to prove that he will do as he promised. Would you like the shadow on the sundial to go forward ten steps or backward ten steps?[a]
10 “The shadow always moves forward,” Hezekiah replied, “so that would be easy. Make it go ten steps backward instead.” 11 So Isaiah the prophet asked the Lord to do this, and he caused the shadow to move ten steps backward on the sundial[b] of Ahaz!

This story reminds me of how all things are possible with God.  It doesn't matter what doctors say, your boss says, your friends say...whatever obstacle you are trying to overcome, God can and will help you with it.

Even against all odds, never give up hope!

I am in love with my new outfit!  I got it yesterday and I am so excited.  I have never tried the whole leggings-with-boots thing, so I thought I would give it a shot:

Its hard to see my boots in this lighting but they are black suede :)

Wave Women

I had the opportunity to attend a "Wave Women" meeting this morning.  Scott and I have pretty much decided that we are going to begin attending Wave Church again and we are really excited.  The women of the church have a bible study every Wednesday at 9:45 and it fits into my schedule perfectly!

This morning Valerie Murphy from Austraila spoke on how we are all God's masterpieces.  That in the midst of all this craziness going on in the world and in our personal lives, God is still sovereign and continuing His work in us.  She quoted the scripture:  Phillipians 1:6 "For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus."  She said God didn't call us to Himself so we could live a happy life and then be whisked off to heaven one day.  He called us for a specific purpose and He won't stop working in us until that purpose is complete..I just LOVE that.  Sometimes it's nice to know that even though I feel like I am a mess, I am God's Daughter and He loves me just the same :)

Matthew 17:20  "I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."

Our baby is 2!

Our sweet little Malti-Poo Lily turned 2 in December!  I was so busy with holiday stuff that I didn't have a chance to write about her.
We got Lily shortly after we bought our house because our apartments wouldn't allow pets.  I had wanted a malti-poo since I was 15 years old and was so excited to learn we could now have one!  We spent weeks and weeks searching for a good breeder and finally we found one!  She was the sweetest lady in Edenton, NC.  We went to visit her when she was 5 weeks old and it was LOVE at first sight:
She was creme colored with a white "blaze" on her forehead, it's hard to see in this pic.

It was hard to leave her at the breeders once we fell in love, we wanted to take her home right away.  But we had to wait until she was older.  So we went home and starting preparing for her(yes, like you would a baby..ha!).  We bought her a bed, leash, collar and tons of toys.  I had a black and white polka-dotted carrying case so I could take her places, what fun is a tiny little dog if she can't go shopping with you? :)  I hand painted her food and water bowl and had them sitting out waiting for her.  It was so silly, but we were SO excited.
On Christmas Eve in 2009 it was time to go get our baby!  Words cannot even describe how excited I was..I even had a count down calendar on my desk at work to help me get through the weeks until we could go get her.

This is the night we brought her home!  How stinkin' cute is she?

Big snow in 2010

She wants to be with me constantly.  If I am upstairs and she isn't allowed up, she cries and cries until I come down. <3
Aww!

Sleepy Head!

I just had to pay tribute to our beautiful little furbaby.  Happy Birthday to Lily!

The next step is having a real baby :)  We are hoping that will happen sometime in 2011, we shall see!

Finallllly Home!

We are finally home from our cruise!  We had a fabulous time.  Our trip was extended a little bit because of the crazy snow storm, we were unable to fly into Norfolk, so we were stuck in Miami for 2 extra days.  It all worked out though, because our school was closed anyways due to the weather, PTL!

We had a fabulous time, of course!  It was a much needed break from all the hustle and bustle and we enjoyed every minute of it!  I just love spending all day, every day with Scott.  It is so obvious that God made us for each other, because we fit together so perfectly.  I feel like any part of me that is lacking, Scott fills in for that...so amazing.

We visited Grand Cayman, Cozumel Mexico, Belize and Roatan Honduras.  Our favorite was Roatan, because it is a very lush, green island.  Kind of under-developed and jungle-y, those are our favorite type of islands. The few days at sea were fun too, Carnival keeps the days jam-packed so there is never a dull moment.  Scott and I enjoyed the "deck parties", karaoke, magic shows and dance lessons.

This is the Lido Deck, this is where all the fun is!

My SIL Claire at sting ray city in Grand Cayman.  Holding a wild sting ray.  So fun!

Dolphinaris in Cozumel, Mexico.  Here we swam with dolphins, hugged them, kissed them etc..We loved this and I thought the location was stunning!

There is "our" dolphin, Marina.

George the monkey, we found him on an island in Roatan.  He really hated being in that cage.

All the girls at our last formal night.  It was Christmas Eve! :)

A hermit crab we found on Roatan

Gorgeous 11 acre island in Roatan.

We go to go inside the Leopards cage and feed Junior in Belize

Isn't he beautiful?

ahhh!

Our last day of excursions, leaving Roatan.  This was our favorite place ever!

My MIL holding a sting ray

I was bored on the plane, this is my new coach bag I got while on the trip! :) :)

Out on the windy deck on our last night..boo hoo :(

Enjoying karaoke one night

Excited to swim with dolphins!

Scott did this...how sweet!

Scott goofing around on the boat.  We chartered a private boat so they let us do whatever we wanted!

Before we left for the cruise, we had Scott's family over for Christmas a week early.  I  made truffles, corn-syrup free pecan pie and spinach and artichoke dip.  The girls brought cookies and cupcakes.  We had a great time hanging out and opening gifts.

We came home with sun tans...to THIS!

My SIL Suzanne with Lily

As you can see, we had a busy past few weeks.  We had so much fun and I feel so blessed to have been able to see the Western part of the Caribbean.
